How long can the patient start getting out of bed and moving around after Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI)?

After TAVI, patients can usually start getting out of bed and moving around within 2-3 days, with discharge from the hospital typically occurring around 7 days post-procedure.

 

When can I return to work after TAVI?

Typically, light work may be considered based on cardiac function after 3-6 months post-procedure, with a gradual transition to normal work activities. Please stop immediately if you experience discomfort such as fatigue or shortness of breath.

 

Can I drive after TAVI?

Driving after TAVI is generally not recommended for the first three months post-procedure until the body recovers well After recovery, it is recommended not to drive for too long time to prevent fatigue.

 

Do I need to take medication after TAVI?

After TAVI, long-term anticoagulation therapy is usually necessary. Warfarin is commonly prescribed, and it's important to strictly follow physician's instructions and regularly check your coagulation function. Do not stop or reduce medication without consulting physician.

 

Can I take a plane after TAVI?

Due to the influence of high-altitude air pressure, mild hypoxia may occur when flying. Therefore, patients who take a plane within 3 months after TAVI should meet the following conditions:

2. No breathing difficulties or hypoxemia;

3. No fear of flying;

4. Accompanied by companions;

Can I take high-speed train after TAVI?

Due to the short journey and comfortable environment, high-speed rail travel is not easy to cause discomfort., so there is no special restriction on taking high-speed trains and maglev trains with good recovery after TAVI. It is recommended to travel with companions and carry the necessary medication.

 

How should I care for myself after discharge from TAVI?

1. During the rest period after discharge, you can wash your hair, take a bath, and walk outdoors. According to your physical condition, do some light household chores that you can manage, progress gradually, and avoid causing shortness of breath and palpitations.  Patients with poor health, especially those with poor heart function should mainly rest in bed.

2. Pay attention to prevent colds, and add clothes when experiencing changes in temperature.

3. Keep a low-salt, low-fat, easily digestible diet, and increase nutrition appropriately. Quit smoking and alcohol, and avoid eating spicy foods.

4. Try to avoid or stay away from high-voltage and high-magnetic field environments.

5. Sexual activity should be avoided for six months after surgery, and then be limited according to your physical condition.

 

Can I drink tea after TAVI?

Drink green tea in moderation and not in high concentration.

3. Patients with mild heart failure should control their daily salt intake to about 5 grams. , and even reduce it when with severe symptoms,;Do not eat pickled foods, and it is best not to eat foods made with alkali or baking soda;

4. Properly control the total calorie and protein intake;

5. Patients with heart failure often lack potassium due to vomiting, orthostatic hypotension, gastrointestinal congestion, and diuretic use. They can eat seaweed, nori, lean meat, oranges, and other foods high in potassium;

6. Properly supplementing vitamin B1 and vitamin C helps protect the myocardium.

 

How long can I take a bath after TAVI? What should I pay attention to when bathing?

Generally speaking, patients can take a shower after one month post-procedure. When bathing, pay attention to avoid getting cold, and do not rub the wound. After bathing, use disinfectant to clean the wound. If abnormal symptoms such as exudation and redness at the incision appear, immediate medical attention should be sought at the hospital.

 

How to exercise after aortic valve replacement?

Before resuming exercise, please follow the specific plan made by theattending physician. Which patients are suitable for TAVI?

1. Severe AS: Echocardiography shows a transaortic flow velocity ≥4.0 m/s, or a transaortic mean pressure gradient ≥40 mmHg (1 mmHg=0.133 kPa), or an aortic valve area <1.0 cm2, or an effective aortic valve area index <0.5 cm2/m2; patients with low flow velocity and low pressure gradient undergo dobutamine stress testing, Doppler ultrasound evaluation, or other imaging modalities to determine severe AS.

2. Symptomatic patients: Such as dyspnea, chest pain, syncope, New York Heart Association (NYHA) functional class II or above, and the symptoms are clearly attributable to AS.

3. Anatomically suitable for TAVI: Including the degree of valve calcification, internal diameter of the aortic valve annulus, dimensions and heights of the aortic sinuses, height of coronary artery ostia, internal diameter of the access vessel, etc.

4. Expected life expectancy after correcting AS exceeds 12 months.

High surgical risk (no age limit), or intermediate to high risk and age ≥70 years. Surgical risk assessment refers to the 2014 American Valve Management Guidelines.

5. Patients who meet all of the above conditions are absolute indications for TAVI. Post-surgical degeneration of bioprosthetic valves is also considered an absolute indication for TAVI.

 

How often should patients undergo follow-up after TAVI?
